Accessibility statement and conformance report
We want everyone to be able to learn about data protection, including people who use screen readers, keyboards, magnification, voice control or other assistive technology.
Our commitment
dpdpcourse.in aims to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA. This page is our Accessibility Conformance Report, in the format of the VPAT® 2.5 (WCAG edition) template published by the Information Technology Industry Council.

How we evaluated
- Automated checks in Chromium on 43 pages, covering the public site, the learner area and the admin panel. Each page was checked in light and dark colour schemes, at 1280px and 320px wide. The checks covered text and non-text contrast, accessible names in the browser’s accessibility tree, headings, landmarks, duplicate ids, form labels and autocomplete, target size, reflow, and text spacing.
- Keyboard testing: tabbing through every page tested to confirm focus order, visible focus and that focus is never hidden.
- A review of the page templates for structure, language, error handling and time limits.
We haven’t yet tested with screen readers (such as NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver or TalkBack) or with users with disabilities. We plan to, and we’ll update this report.
Related standards
WCAG 2.2 Level AA includes every requirement of WCAG 2.1 and 2.0 Level AA. Those are the web requirements referenced by India’s standard IS 17802 and the Guidelines for Indian Government Websites (GIGW 3.0), by the European standard EN 301 549 (clause 9), and by the US Revised Section 508 Standards.

WCAG 2.2 Level A
| Criteria | Conformance level | Remarks and explanations |
|---|---|---|
| 1.1.1 Non-text Content | Supports | Images have text alternatives. The logo’s alternative text gives the site name and tagline. Decorative images, icons and course cover tiles are hidden from assistive technology, and icon-only buttons have text labels. |
| 1.2.1 Audio-only and Video-only (Prerecorded) | Not Applicable | No audio-only or video-only content is published. Course editors are reminded to provide a transcript if any is added. |
| 1.2.2 Captions (Prerecorded) | Not Applicable | No lesson videos are published yet. Lesson videos play in YouTube or Vimeo players, which show captions; the lesson editor asks for accurate captions on every video. |
| 1.2.3 Audio Description or Media Alternative (Prerecorded) | Not Applicable | No videos are published yet. Every lesson has a full text body alongside any video. |
| 1.3.1 Info and Relationships | Supports | Pages use headings in order (one h1 per page), lists, landmark regions (header, navigation, main, footer), data tables with header cells, and form labels tied to their fields. Help and error text is linked to fields with aria-describedby. |
| 1.3.2 Meaningful Sequence | Supports | Reading order in the code matches the visual order at every screen width. |
| 1.3.3 Sensory Characteristics | Supports | Instructions don’t rely on shape, colour, size, position or sound. |
| 1.4.1 Use of Colour | Supports | Links in text are underlined. Status (completed lessons, enrolment and payment status) is shown with text and icons, not colour alone. |
| 1.4.2 Audio Control | Supports | Nothing plays automatically. |
| 2.1.1 Keyboard | Supports | Everything can be done with a keyboard: navigation, sign-in, enrolment, lessons, account settings, consent choices and every admin task. The site uses standard links, buttons and form controls. |
| 2.1.2 No Keyboard Trap | Supports | Focus can always move away, including out of embedded video players. |
| 2.1.4 Character Key Shortcuts | Not Applicable | The site has no single-key shortcuts. |
| 2.2.1 Timing Adjustable | Supports | Email sign-in codes expire after 10 minutes for security (essential exception); a new code can be requested at once and nothing else is lost. Signed-in sessions last 30 days. No other time limits. |
| 2.2.2 Pause, Stop, Hide | Supports | There is no moving, blinking, scrolling or auto-updating content. The countdown to DPDP deadlines is static text. |
| 2.3.1 Three Flashes or Below Threshold | Supports | Nothing flashes. |
| 2.4.1 Bypass Blocks | Supports | A “Skip to content” link is the first item on every page, and pages use landmark regions. |
| 2.4.2 Page Titled | Supports | Every page has a unique, descriptive title. |
| 2.4.3 Focus Order | Supports | Focus moves in a logical order that follows the layout. |
| 2.4.4 Link Purpose (In Context) | Supports | Link text, with its surrounding sentence, list item or table row, describes where it goes. |
| 2.5.1 Pointer Gestures | Supports | No path-based or multi-point gestures are needed. |
| 2.5.2 Pointer Cancellation | Supports | Actions happen when the pointer is released (standard links and buttons). |
| 2.5.3 Label in Name | Supports | Accessible names include the visible label text. |
| 2.5.4 Motion Actuation | Not Applicable | No features use device motion. |
| 3.1.1 Language of Page | Supports | Pages declare English (India). The Hindi and Tamil privacy notices declare their own languages. |
| 3.2.1 On Focus | Supports | Focusing an item never changes the page. |
| 3.2.2 On Input | Supports | Changing a field or selection never submits a form or moves you elsewhere. Filters apply only when the Filter button is pressed. |
| 3.2.6 Consistent Help | Supports | Contact details and the contact page link are in the same place in the footer of every page. |
| 3.3.1 Error Identification | Supports | Errors are described in text at the top of the form (announced as an alert) and next to the field, which is marked invalid. |
| 3.3.2 Labels or Instructions | Supports | Every field has a visible label, with formats and requirements given as help text (for example the 10-digit mobile number). |
| 3.3.7 Redundant Entry | Supports | Details already given, such as name and mobile number, are filled in for you and not asked for again. |
| 4.1.1 Parsing (obsolete in WCAG 2.2) | Supports | Removed from WCAG 2.2 and always treated as supported. Pages are generated from templates without duplicate ids. |
| 4.1.2 Name, Role, Value | Supports | The site uses native HTML controls, so names, roles and states are exposed to assistive technology. Embedded video frames have titles. Every control has an accessible name (checked in the browser’s accessibility tree). |
WCAG 2.2 Level AA
| Criteria | Conformance level | Remarks and explanations |
|---|---|---|
| 1.2.4 Captions (Live) | Not Applicable | The site has no live audio or video. |
| 1.2.5 Audio Description (Prerecorded) | Not Applicable | No videos are published yet. The lesson editor asks for anything shown on screen to be described. |
| 1.3.4 Orientation | Supports | Pages work in portrait and landscape. |
| 1.3.5 Identify Input Purpose | Supports | Fields that ask for the learner’s own name, email, phone, organisation and sign-in code carry the matching autocomplete values. |
| 1.4.3 Contrast (Minimum) | Supports | Text meets 4.5:1 (3:1 for large text) in both the light and dark colour schemes, including placeholders, buttons, status labels and sign-in provider marks. Measured on every page tested. |
| 1.4.4 Resize Text | Supports | Text is sized in relative units and the layout adapts, so pages work at 200% zoom without loss of content. |
| 1.4.5 Images of Text | Supports | Text is real text. The only image of text is the logo, which is exempt. |
| 1.4.10 Reflow | Supports | Every page tested works at 320 CSS pixels wide without sideways scrolling. Wide data tables in the admin panel scroll within their own box, which the criterion allows. |
| 1.4.11 Non-text Contrast | Supports | Text fields, selects and text areas have borders of at least 3:1 against the page in both colour schemes. Focus indicators and checkboxes meet 3:1. File-upload fields use the browser’s own button. |
| 1.4.12 Text Spacing | Supports | With WCAG text spacing applied (line height 1.5, letter spacing 0.12em, word spacing 0.16em, paragraph spacing 2em), no text is cut off. Decorative course cover tiles, which repeat the course title shown beside them, may crop. |
| 1.4.13 Content on Hover or Focus | Supports | The site doesn’t show tooltips or pop-ups on hover or focus. |
| 2.4.5 Multiple Ways | Supports | Pages can be reached from the main navigation, the footer links on every page, the course catalogue and the article index. |
| 2.4.6 Headings and Labels | Supports | Headings and form labels describe their topic or purpose. |
| 2.4.7 Focus Visible | Supports | Every link, button and field shows a clear focus outline, including the frame of an embedded video player when focus is inside it. |
| 2.4.11 Focus Not Obscured (Minimum) | Supports | The sticky header leaves room when focus moves (scroll padding), so focused items are never hidden behind it. |
| 2.5.7 Dragging Movements | Supports | Nothing needs dragging. Courses are reordered with Move up and Move down buttons. |
| 2.5.8 Target Size (Minimum) | Supports | Buttons and fields are at least 44px tall. Footer links, table links and other small targets are at least 24×24px or are links within sentences, which are exempt. |
| 3.1.2 Language of Parts | Supports | Hindi and Tamil text, including the language switch links, is marked with its language. |
| 3.2.3 Consistent Navigation | Supports | The header, footer and admin tabs are the same on every page. |
| 3.2.4 Consistent Identification | Supports | Items that do the same thing are labelled the same way throughout. |
| 3.3.3 Error Suggestion | Supports | Error messages say how to fix the problem, with examples where useful. |
| 3.3.4 Error Prevention (Legal, Financial, Data) | Supports | Payments show an order summary and need the terms to be accepted before paying. Deleting an account needs DELETE to be typed. Destructive admin actions ask for confirmation. |
| 3.3.8 Accessible Authentication (Minimum) | Supports | Sign-in uses Google, LinkedIn, Facebook or Microsoft, or a one-time code sent by email that can be pasted or filled in automatically. There are no passwords to remember and no puzzles. |
| 4.1.3 Status Messages | Supports | Confirmation messages such as “Copied” are announced through a status region; error messages use an alert. |
Known limitations and third-party content
- Sign-in pages of Google, LinkedIn, Facebook and Microsoft, and Cashfree’s payment page, are run by those companies and are outside this report. You can always sign in with a code sent by email instead. If you have trouble paying, contact us and we’ll help you enrol another way.
- Embedded YouTube and Vimeo players are provided by those companies. Lesson videos must have accurate captions, and every lesson has a full text version.
- Downloadable course files (such as PDFs) are prepared by the course team. We aim to publish them as accessible, tagged documents. Ask us for an accessible version of any file.
